He then progresses to Atchley's New Testament reasons. Not all things that were done under the old law are to be done by Christians today. He then takes the reader through a look at Atchley's Old Testament reasons for allowing instruments and whether or not they are valid. Brother Alexander begins by establishing the background of the issue. This book is written as an almost point-by-point rebuttal of brother Atchley's argument. Atchley has developed an argument for why instruments can be included in worship. This is of course counter to what the mainstream majority of the churches of Christ believe and practice and has been a controversial position. Thomas Alexander has written this book as a direct rebuttal to the position of brother Rick Atchley of the Richland Hills Church of Christ that muscial instruments are permitted in the worship of God. However, there is a continual need to study and learn what the Scriptures say about any given subject. As the author acknowledges, the material in this book has been covered many times before, especially over the last 200 years.
